From color and font selections, to background styles and layout arrangements, many choices affect how the template looks and how it will work for users. Then use these colors again for Accents 3 and 4 in PowerPoint 2010. The Hyperlink color applies only to text with a defined hyperlink. When determining the order of accent colors, consider how they will look next to one another in a column or bar chart. Keep in mind that a column chart might use all six accents. The Theme Colors dialog box includes settings for 12 colors. This format works well for preliminary color exploration; you can quickly check for contrast and harmony. In reality, the design process begins long before you open PowerPoint because you must make decisions about these things before you start working. For most corporate templates, accent colors are derived from a branding color palette. Typing in RGB values for 12 colors is tedious and time consuming. When one color is lighter or brighter than the rest, that data series tends to stand out or appear highlighted. It displays a magnified view of pixels surrounding your cursor and also shows you the RGB values in hexadecimal and decimal formats.
As demonstrated in Chapter 2, all the style galleries are filled with the accent colors. The best way to do this is to start with a colorful sample slide that includes a chart or a SmartArt diagram. Create a slide for each light and dark background color. The Followed Hyperlink color displays only in Slide Show mode after a hyperlink has been clicked. To accommodate these different venues and lighting situations, presenters often need to change their slides from light to dark backgrounds and vice versa. Presentations are delivered in a wide range of venues: ballrooms, boardrooms, classrooms, and so on, each with a different type of projector and a different amount of ambient light in the room. Numerous decisions go into a template design.
Some executives hate purple. At the bottom of the Colors gallery, select Create New Theme Colors. Project these sample slides and review the colors with key decision makers. This can make reading text and looking at the screen for a long period of time difficult for an audience. In the early stages of the template design process, develop a few sample slides that show theme colors in action. Tweak the color values as needed and project again to test. Setting up the colors correctly is imperative because your choices affect the appearance of everything moving forward. Unfortunately, when you paste slides from older versions of PowerPoint into newer versions, objects mapped to Accent 3 and Hyperlink or Accent 4 and Followed Hyperlink get mapped to Hyperlink and Followed Hyperlink colors.
You can also create slides on light and dark background colors, using filled textboxes for each of the proposed accent colors. When selecting from the available themes, you want to be able to see the colors in action. Subdued hues might become dimmer or washed out. For the alternative lighter version, you decide on celery green backgrounds with black text. We recommend repeating one of the accent colors for the Hyperlink color. RGB values you need to use, then you must create a custom color theme. One of them might work well for your template design or at least be a good starting point. Why Are Background Styles Important?
Read this section to learn how theme colors work and how extremely important the order in which you position them is. The six accent colors form the basic palette for your presentation graphics. Type in these RGB values to create your tutorial color theme. This should help users because everything uses the same colors, right? When you save a new theme colors file on your system, the name appears in your Colors gallery. OfficeOne ProTools Color Picker makes picking up and applying any color simple. Accent 3 and Accent 4 colors as you would expect.
Text always defaults to either Dark 1 or Light 1, whichever is the opposite value from the value you chose for the background style. The next few chapters take you through building a template step by step. Colors also have various connotations in different cultures. Choose one of the Background Styles when you set up a new template. Followed Hyperlink is usually more subdued in value because it signifies a link has already been clicked. Chart text, table text, and SmartArt text always pick up either the Dark 1 or Light 1 color.
The Hyperlink and Followed Hyperlink colors do not appear in Theme Colors or any of the other galleries. These preliminary steps might seem like a lot of extra work, but the time involved early in the process can save you hours of rework later. Take a look at Chapter 10 for more information on designing a template. Use the standard color tab to select from a basic palette. The change is actually related to the theme colors and the way PowerPoint maps color scheme slots between older versions and newer ones. Make your changes and save, retaining the original color theme name.
Create example slides to see how the accent colors look together and to determine whether they have enough contrast with the backgrounds. Shape Fill tool on the Home tab of the Ribbon to manually format test colors. Before finalizing a template, projecting sample slides to review colors, contrast, and legibility is best. To edit each theme color, click the color swatch to open the Theme Colors gallery and then click More Colors. This is useful if your brand guideline includes this information. Open a blank presentation in PowerPoint and click on the Design tab.
You can also create a branded template by altering an already existing templates. The Slide Master lets you create new slide layouts. The box will automatically be populated with a bullet point list. You will insert the image onto the master slide and move it to where you would like it to appear. In the Home tab, change the size of the font for your header box and text box. With your mouse, draw out the shape of the text box. You are in charge of creating a series of PowerPoint presentations for a new project.
PowerPoint tutorial will show you how. PowerPoint template can save you a lot of time keep the look and feel the same. Here you can title your new color scheme and change all the colors for the text, background, accents, and links. You will want to use a common font type that can be found on many computers, so that it is not difficult accessible. If you want to change the layout of a slide or create a new one, you need to open Slide Master. You have to do this on the very first slide in the rundown, called the master slide. With Slide Master open, you can change the font sizes to apply to all the slides. The second option is the slider.
For this tutorial, I am using the Parallax theme. You know you can hand each presentation out to your team, but you fear they will lack consistency. You can see that the plane is on top of the text box and has a white box around it. Select the font style that closely matches your brand. To make a new layout, select Insert Layout. This lets you adjust how dark or bright you want the color to be. If one of these sets matches your branding, then you are all set. You can rearrange text boxes, add a Footer, change the slide size and more.
Select that and begin creating a color scheme that fits your brand. Save this branded PowerPoint template as is by going to File, Save As, and naming it. Your presentations can now be consistent, no matter who is assigned to creating them. You will see a box pop up with instructions. The third option lets you search for a color by name or number. If you only want an image to appear on one or two slides, you simply insert the image the same way but just on the slides you wants. When you are done working in Slide Master, close it out on the toolbar. Then use the Insert Placeholder to select the type of layout you need. This tool works great if you already have an image of the color scheme for your brand. The last option is a set of colored pencils you can choose from. Select the View tab and select Slide Master. Now that the color scheme is applied to all the slides, we can change the fonts. You can delete that text out. From there, select Send to Back.
Now you will see the white background disappear on all the logo images on the slides. Just select the slide in the left rundown that you want to move or remove. If you need to find a specific color, you have a couple options. You have to insert the image on the master slide for it to appear on all slides. By selecting the ink blotter tool, you can hold it over any image on your computer to capture and save the color to your Custom Colors. Select the Colors toolbar and a variety of color options will appear. Now you will see all the changes you made appear on each slide layout. You will see a new slide appear. Select the Content option from Insert Placeholder.
Trace the box closely around the image and press the Enter button. You can also set the RGB scale to match your brand colors if you have that information. You will see a list populate with all the different font options. You will see the changes automatically apply to all the slides. To move the image behind the text box, select the Picture Format tab. The next option, Spectrum, lets you select a color based off the rainbow image and it saves it to your custom colors. This lets you edit every slide layout in the master file.
So, select the theme you want to redesign. The rest of the slides in your rundown will reflect the changes. Use whichever option you would like to create a color scheme that is consistent with your brand. The first option is the ink blotter. After you hit save, you will see the new color scheme appear on the title slide and all the other slides that follow. Once you are done, name it and save it. You will see all the different themes that are included in PowerPoint.
You can also use colors by Apple, Crayon or Developer. To get rid of the white background on the image, select the Remove Background button on the Picture Format tab. If you want a logo or image to appear on every slide, you can insert it like you would a normal image. With all of these themes, you can change the colors and fonts and add images.
